Owning a new AC unit may seem exciting at first but you wallet will not seem too excited unless you have plenty of money to spare and that is because most units cost, on average, between $3,000 to $10,000. But the cost can go above that figure. The sad thing about this is that there is no end in sight but there is something that we can all do and that is to try and get each of our homes and businesses energy efficient. Even though you may think you have a new AC unit in your home just because it's a few years old, that does not mean it is actually a new one. In fact, every year companies are coming out with more and more energy efficient HVAC units that are ENERGY STAR labeled. This means that they have passed the strictest United States government economical standards and testing.
Even though you may want to purchase the name brand models like Trane and Goodman, you may want to consider shopping around for other new AC units that are less known. Just because they are more expensive does not necessarily mean that they are better suited for your needs. It is just like going in for an oil change with your car. Sometimes, your car does not need the most expensive oil at that time. There are some instances where you could actually buy the wrong size HVAC unit for your home or business though and that could cause massive issues because the unit could work overtime to try and work to push air through a room that was way too big to begin with. You should always try to hire a contractor to figure in these issues beforehand and this will save you money in the short and long term.
New AC units may not be all that useful now that summer is ending but once spring rolls around they will be needed once again and if your unit is older than 10 years old, then it should be time for you to look into getting a new one. It is rare for a unit to last longer than 10 years as it is but if you are able to get 15 years out of your older unit then you are doing great but do not push it any further than that. HVAC units are not designed to last that long.
Remember that choosing the right contractor makes all the difference in the world and if you can find the right one for your needs then you will save yourself time and money. Never rush these things unless you have to and then do not even try to.
