Granite countertops are a beautiful new addition to any bathroom that needs remodeled. Often countertops can appear dull and stained after many years of use. Furthermore wear and tear on your bathroom countertop can lead to many scuffs, dents, and scratches. If this is the case with your bathroom, maybe it is time to install a new, solid granite countertop. Granite adds a luxurious look to any bathroom. Granite comes in many different styles and designs to add a stylish, contemporary look to your home. The following steps will give you a basic idea on how to install a new granite countertop.

The first thing that you need to do to start your installation is to make sure that your cabinets are attached to the walls securely, and that they are level. Confirm this procedure with a construction level before you begin installing your countertop. If the cabinets are not level, then you need to use wood shims to get them level before beginning. Next, take a caulking gun and some construction adhesive and spread it evenly about ¾-inch wide on the corner bracing at the base of the cabinet. Then, along the front brace that goes horizontally, spread another even line of adhesive.

Now, you need to take your granite countertop and place it evenly onto the base of the cabinets that you have just put the adhesive on. You will need to place a weight onto the top of the counter at the bases to be certain that the adhesive spreads out properly. It is very important that the weights remain in place for at least 24 hours. This allows enough time for the adhesive to cure, so you can move on with your project. If you have multiple sections on your countertops, you will need to repeat this process for each section.

The next step is to install the backlash of the countertop. In order to do this you need to take your adhesive and apply it carefully to the rear surface of the pieces of the backlash. After the adhesive has been applied, press the backlash firmly in place against the wall. While the adhesive cures, you may need to shim the pieces in order to keep them properly aligned.

Afterward, once the entire amount of adhesive has cured, you are ready to move on and apply the grout. First of all, be certain to remove any shims that were used in leveling the countertop. Now, apply the acrylic grout to fill in the seams or gaps, as well as to assist with sealing the joints. With a clean cloth, wipe away the dust from the excess grout. Finally, your new granite countertop is ready for use.

By following those simple steps, you can soon enjoy a dazzling, new granite countertop in your bathroom. You home will look amazing once this contemporary project has been completed.
