Granite is a very popular choice for bathroom countertop remodeling. However, as with any material, there are pros and cons that should be considered before making a purchase. Since remodeling a countertop is not a cheap job, consider all of the possible options to be certain granite is the right choice for your family.

Pros:

There are so many advantages in remodeling your bathroom with a granite top. Granite is an extremely durable material that will last a long time. Furthermore, granite is exceptionally hygienic, due to the fact that it can resist most bacteria. Many people prefer the use of granite simply because it looks stunning in their bathroom. Granite adds a luxurious appeal to any room it is used in.

Granite is also offered in a wide variety of styles, designs, and colors. You can find a beautiful granite grain that will fit right in with your other bathroom décor. Also, you can add elegance to your bathroom by purchasing a polished granite countertop; although, many prefer an unpolished natural color. Either way, granite is very aesthetically appealing for all bathrooms.

Another reason many people choose granite countertops is because they require very little maintenance. Granite is able to resist most chemicals, and is water- resistant as well. Water is unable to leak inside your countertop and cause mold, mildew, cracks, or rotting wood. This makes your new granite bathroom countertop very durable and easy to clean.

Cons:

As with any remodeling material, there are disadvantages that you should be aware of as well. First of all, granite is a very costly material. A large bathroom countertop may be out of your price range. Basically, you get what you pay for. If you want a top quality granite counter, then you should expect to pay more money for it.

Although granite is easy to care for, it does require resealing every six months to a year. This is another cost if you have someone come into your home to do the resealing job for you. Without resealing at least once a year, water may be able to seep into the cracks and cause problems.

Finally, another disadvantage of granite is that it may be hard to replace. All granite slabs are unique in their own way, displaying many different styles and patterns. This may be a problem later on if you want to replace the granite with the exact same pattern. While some enjoy changing it up a little, others prefer to keep things the same. This is just a step that you need to take into consideration before purchasing a new granite bathroom countertop.

As you can see there are both pros and cons in purchasing a new granite countertop. If money is not an option, then granite is an exceptional choice for your bathroom.
