When it comes to getting new countertops in your kitchen there is no more popular option for many homeowners than granite. Granite countertops are some of the most popular kitchen countertops for a number of reasons. While many people prefer to have granite countertops because they have a beautiful natural shine to them and are some of the most luxurious looking countertops available, there are many other benefits to granite countertops that make this material such a popular staple in kitchens around the country. There is literally no end to the possible colors and patterns you can choose when picking out granite countertops. In fact, the hardest part about choosing granite countertops is usually picking what color is best since there are so many to choose from.

One of the biggest appeals of granite countertops aside from their physical appearance is the durability of this material. Granite countertops are heat resistant, this means, unlike other materials, they cannot be damaged by heat. So when a busy cook places a hot pot or pan down on a granite countertop no damage will be done to the material, this is a particularly important feature to have in a kitchen. Another aspect of the durability of granite countertops that makes them so popular in kitchens is that they are scratch and knife proof. This means if you need to quickly chop up a vegetable right on the counter but don t have a cutting board, you do not need to worry about damaging your granite countertops. The granite countertops will not scratch or be harmed in any way.

Many parents are also loving granite countertops because not only are they heat resistant they are also bacteria resistant as well. This means it is less likely for bacteria to grow on granite countertops and ultimately get into your food. As many parents of young children know, kids have the ability to easily pick up and spread bacteria so having a bacteria resistant material near their food is a great bonus. Grant countertops are resistant to other things as well, such as water and stains. Even light colored granite will not be stained by dark liquids such as red juice, which cannot be said for all other types of countertop materials.

Although granite countertops do come with a higher price tag than other, less durable types of countertops such as laminate the many benefits of granite countertops seem to outweigh their price. Granite countertops have been and will continue to be a popular countertop option in kitchens across the country for a multitude of reasons, including the facts that they are attractive, durable and come in nearly any color option possible.
