Recently, Prostate cancer has been identified as the main killer of men over 45 Too many men still don't seem to see a need to take these issues seriously in spite of a host of available education and awareness programs.

Men can be reassured, though, by doing one of several things.

Following is some data and recommendations from a lot of experts that will serve you well.

Over the course of a lifetime, prostate problems will impact one in every six men. So there is no cause for feelings of isolation of victimization. As soon as you notice a problem, immediately go to the doctor. By dealing with the problem right away, you can be almost assured of a complete recovery. Your chances of being treated successfully will significantly improve if you visit your doctor soon and get referred to a Urologist.

There is hope for the future. Scientists at the UK's Liverpool University isolated the gene causing prostate cancer to spread in 2002. We're still investigating new medications that will hopefully be able to treat prostate cancer without using the traditional chemotherapy regimens.

Diet habits are one of the most common threads in literature regarding cancer of the prostate.

* Eliminate dairy products and replace them with soy products. Having a couple of glasses of soy milk each day can produce dramatic effects.

* Research has shown that lycopene, found in tomatoes, can be ingested to help fight off the onslaught of prostate cancer. Eating one moderately sized tomato a day also provides approximately 4 mg of lycopene. Other tomato products provide up to 25 mg of lycopene.

* Plants that are rich in certain minerals are also healthful. A diet rich in leafy vegetables (like spinach); roots (like carrots); orange vegetables (like pumpkins); legumes (like beans) and even fruit (like avocado) are all recommended as healthy choices.

* Garlic, which is easily in every top ten list for preventative health foods, contains allicin, which lowers the proliferation of cancer cells.

* Another ingredient effective in the fight against prostrate cancer in the red and green vegetables is selenium.

Cut back on salt and seasonings as these have been linked to cancer.

Lastly, take six or more cups of green tea daily, as many choose to do.

After all is said and done, there are many optimistic outlooks about minimizing the threat of developing prostate cancer. A healthy diet as outlined above, coupled with most others advocated by Dietitian everywhere, will dramatically reduce your concerns and help you lead a normal healthy long life.
