For many after school education – what is next? - is a question they are haunted by day and night. Whether they take up university or not; whether to do a full time or a part time job; whether to go abroad or not; are all left to be answered by each individual. Many make their decisions based on their strengths and on what decision suits their lifestyle.

Many wish to take up TEFL Thailand. The main aim would be qualifying to teach English as a foreign language for the fellow students who wish to visit Thailand for further education. They even apply to teach English abroad after a TEFL qualification. This can be a rewarding experience.

The basic and major qualification required to qualify in TEFL is the internationally recognized TEFL certification or also known as TESOL Certification. TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages.

As there are many organizations claiming to offer this TEFL qualification, one must be aware and go through the organizations history before making the decision as many may not be TEFL qualifications which are globally accepted.

Usually in TEFL institutes and other English language schools, they look for the TEFL qualification which meets international regulatory standards. Which is a minimum of 4 weeks with 120+ hours and which should be externally moderated and accredited. Ideal courses should comprise of various projects and assignments and 6 hrs of English teaching lessons with foreign English language students which must be observed followed by constructive critiques. TEFL courses in Thailand also have a dynamic input session led by the trainee which should cover all aspects of English teaching such as phonology, grammar, teaching methodology. This system has a grading based on performance. An end of course exam is vital to grade the applicant. This grade not only reads that you have a good standard in teaching English in Thailand but also that you have shown ability to adjust to a foreign environment and culture.

If a short weekend programme or an online course is followed for the TEFL qualification, many job offers many not come your way as many features of a 4 week TEFL course may not be covered.

Following a TEFL course if a wise decision; following an internationally recognized TEFL course is a wise selection.
