Buying antioxidants in the form of pills is very popular, but are they as effective as eating foods with these substances? Many sources say they are not, but some people believe that any amount of antioxidant in the body is always better than having none at all. If you are out buying antioxidant pills, you have to do your best not to get ripped off of your money on scams and ineffective pills.

First, remember that no pill would ever be as effective and as healthy as eating the real thing. It is very easy to look for antioxidant sources because they are almost in every known fruit and vegetable known to man, from leafy greens to bright fruits. The reason why most antioxidant supplements don't seem to work is the fact that there needs to be a certain combination of nutrients, vitamins, substances and chemicals for the body to actually start fighting off the roaming free radicals. This would only be likely by eating the real and fresh sources. Having an antioxidant pill would only be good if combined with these real sources.

Next, keep in mind that taking supplementary pills are not your way to good health. Food supplements are called supplements for a reason, and the reason is that you still need to try to eat and live healthy for them to show you their maximum effects and benefits. If you are to judge the effects of the antioxidants from pills and pills alone, you would definitely come up with the conclusion that they do not work.

Different people have different needs and your need for an antioxidant would be different from others. It will always be better to consult with your nutritionist about what you need for your body to be healthy and stay that way. There are many different factors that would determine these needs, and these factors include smoking status, current health status, past and current medical conditions, as well as current diet.

After this consultation, your doctor would tell you what antioxidants need and why you need them. Now that you know what you lack and what you have in excess, it would be very easy for you to buy vitamins in pills. If you have no idea on what you should buy, ask your doctor about it and he should give you a good brand name. You would have no reason to doubt your doctor, but some people do and ask recommendations from trusted friends or family members, and this could be a great idea only if you know what you need.

Bear in mind that there is such a thing as too much vitamins and nutrients. Too much of the good thing will disrupt the stability that should be inside the body at all times. Antioxidants are good, but not in too little and too big amounts. Buying a good vitamin or antioxidant supplement would be a good idea, but eating and living healthy would always be a better one. With the right supplement, living healthy would be healthier.
