It is very easy to be overwhelmed when you first start to shop for new flooring. There are so many different choices. Even if you narrow it down to one type of flooring that you want, such as hardwood flooring, there are still lots of options for you sort through. On the bright side the high number of choices means that you WILL be able to find the perfect type of hardwood flooring for your house, it is just going to take some time.

One of the factors that you will want to consider when you are looking at the different types of flooring is how much traffic the area gets on a daily basis. If you are going to be flooring a high traffic area you are going to want to look for a type of wood that is durable. Bamboo is always an excellent choice when it comes to high traffic areas. Maple floors are also a good choice when you are going to be flooring a high traffic area since it is considerably more durable

Don't forget to consider the hardwood floor colors. There is no point in purchasing a new floor for your home if the color of the flooring doesn't compliment the rest of your interior. One of the things that many people forget is that one of the things that influence hardwood floor colors is the type of the wood the flooring is made out of. Some wood, like oak, is lighter in color, whereas Maple has a fuller coloring. Many people feel that hardwood flooring that is actually lighter in color is actually easier to clean than darker colored woods.

Lighter colored wood that has less grain is going to make a small room look larger, more spacious, than it really is. On the other hand, using a wood with a great deal of grain that looks almost textured will mean that the flooring has more visual appeal.

The good news is that when it comes to hardwood floor colors, things can be changed with just the right type of stain or finish. If you have a hunch that getting the hardwood floor colors you want for the interior of your house is going to require the use of some stain, you are going to want to choose a lighter shade of hardwood whose color is easier to manipulate. You should see if the company you are going to be purchasing the hardwood flooring from will let you take home samples of several different hardwood floor colors so that you can see what the flooring looks like when it is actually in your house and not just in a storeroom where everything always looks different.

This is not a process that you should be a hurry to complete. You are going to be spending a lot of money on a new floor, the least you can do is take your time during the selection process and make sure that you have selected the hardwood floor that best suits your personality and taste.
