After you mow your grass and trim your lawn, the last thing you want to do is trim your hedges. Making sure your bushes are nicely trimmed adds to the overall appearance of the exterior of your home and it tells people in your neighborhood that you really care about the maintenance of your yard. If you ever want to sell your house, you will want to make sure the yard looks its very best. To some people, trimming hedges is a chore. Others find it enjoyable and look forward to creating new designs in their bushes. Either way, hedge trimming does not have to be done all that often. It may be hard work, but it is very rewarding.

When it comes to landscaping equipment, one of the most important things you can own is a hedge trimmer and any hedge trimmer parts that go along with it. Before you start trimming the hedges, you will want to make sure you sharpen the trimmer so it will run efficiently and effectively. If you are cutting the bushes will dull blades, you will not get the result you want. You will also want to make sure the machine is clean. If you use it several times during the year, you might have to replace the spark plug. The job will take you much longer if the machine is running slowly so maintain it well and you will be done in no time.

It is also a good idea to blow out the air filter between every few uses. The dust will slow the machine down and it may even harm it if it is left too long. You will want to keep the blade oiled in order to reduce the heat on them so they do not become blunt too quickly.

Whenever you run a hedge trimmer, safety is key. Hedge trimmer parts are very sharp and can be quite dangerous. You will want to make sure you have the proper eye protection because sharp and flying debris can come your way at any time. Ear defenders are also a good idea because the noise will be loud and very close to your ears.

When you operate a hedge trimmer, you will also want to take breaks after an hour or so. The fumes from the machine could cause you to feel sick and the overall process can be cause fatigue and weakness. If you are trimming over your head, you need to take breaks even more frequently so you do not get too tired of holding the heavy piece of machinery. The appearance of your lawn is never as important as your overall health and well-being. You can take as long as you need to get the bushes looking just right.
