Food is essentially good - they give fuel to the body, so that people can do their everyday activities and live their lives. Without food, people will not have anything to use as energy. It also contains all the minerals and vitamins that human beings need for nutrition. But then, not all food contains the same amount of nutrients. There are also a good number of food items that also contain excessive amounts of substances such as fat and salt, among other things. This difference between 'good food' and 'bad food' becomes more obvious when excess amounts of the latter are consumed. For example, potato chips are not really that bad if a person only has a bag of them once or at most, twice a week. However, if someone has big servings of them everyday, this will certainly lead to a lot of health concerns like an increase of bad cholesterol.
Foods that are classified as good may have the proper amount of vitamins and minerals, but taking them and only them for losing weight usually makes people who do so very bored with their diets that they eventually give up and return to excessive eating of 'bad foods'. But then, it is essential to note that if a person wants to lose weight, eating a balanced diet, eating 'bad' foods in small to moderate amounts, exercise should be done. Pressuring oneself to shun 'bad foods' to lose weight will only make one feel deprived, and this eventually becomes a losing battle against the bulge. The sad truth is that 'bad foods' are usually the more savory and the more 'delicious', which is why completely depriving oneself of them will only lead to worse situations later.
'Good foods', or those that have the recommended amounts of nutrients but not excessive calories that will hinder someone from shedding weight, are everywhere. While it is also true that they may not be exciting and filling as 'bad foods' like chips, burgers, steaks and ice cream, they can also be prepared in such a way that will be enticing. The challenge to a person who is losing weight would be to prepare these foods in such a way that they will always be excited in eating them, and not let them be something that feels forced.
Ask anyone what food they consider to be good for the body and they will always answer the combination of fruits and veggies. Vegetables, especially green and leafy ones are not just only good for the health, they also contain lower calories that are ideal for people trying to shed off extra pounds. The common mistake with this, though, is eating a lot of veggies in salads that have thick dressings with hundreds upon hundreds of calories. For fruits, a lot of fruits can be taken for losing weight, but the fresh variety should be preferred. Eating canned fruits is usually a fault because those who eat them also consume the syrup that is canned with it. The simple sugars in the syrup are simply a big no-no for people watching their weight.
