Driving is an important skill to acquire for a lifetime. So before you invest time and money in it, it is important to understand the things you need to pay attention to and get answered before enrolling in a driving school. If the driving school is not up to the mark, you could land in trouble. For example, it is important to check if they have a public liability and professional indemnity insurance, or if they are involved in legal issues or people/learners have had bad experience with them. Let’s look at a few things you need to check with the driving School before enrolling:
• Fees: What is the course fee? Is it too expensive or affordable?
• Duration: How long is each session, and what is the entire time period of the course?
• Type of vehicle offered: What is the size if the vehicle? Is it small, medium or large, manual or automated?
• Personal attention: Is it just the learner and the instructor in the car, making it a one-on-one training session or there could be other students as well?
• Dual-controls: It is mandatory as per law that all cars must have dual-controls.Does your driving school meet the requirement?
• Membership: Does the school have a ADTA membership?
• RTA Licence: Has the RTA issued the instructor the Driving Instructor License? Is it currently valid?
• Communication with family/parents: Do they keep your parents or family members in the loop? This is very important, for them to know your progress.
• Inability to attend the course: If you are unable to attend your session/driving lesson, will they cooperate or give you the refund, or adjust it for some later sessions?
• Assistance after lessons are over: Does the school provide drivers for your personal assistance and some more practice till you reach a stage when you are confident enough to drive independently.
These are crucial questions that you need answered by the Driving School you intend to join. Driving is a skill, no doubt. But it is also about following road safety and road rules. So don’t overlook that. If there are rules that apply to you, there are rules that apply to the Driving School and the Driving Instructor too. So make the right choice in getting trained from the best school possible. So that you enjoy the learning experience even more!
