If you have been thinking about fat loss recently, then you may also have thought about joining a gym. Or maybe, someone at work has started going a gym membership and you have been noticing the great improvements on his or her figure that is why you are also thinking of joining one as well.

So all you need to do now is head on the gym nearest your home, right? Well, not so fast there Speedy Gonzales! You need to consider a few basic things first before you sign on the dotted line and hand your fat loss fate to their hands.

1. Check with the BBB or Better Business Bureau if the gym you are eyeing is good to its customers. If the gym has a number of complaints, which you will see on the BBB site itself, then look for another gym to enroll in.

2. Ask your friends who are members already if they like the deal that they got. Ask what they would want to change with the gym they are under right now and if you are still willing to enroll after hearing their issues, then you can move on to the next bullet. Also, don't' forget to check if they can refer you there, you might get a group discount.

3. Visit the gym. Before looking at the contract, ask if you can do an ocular inspection of the facility first before you sign up. Treat the viewing as if you are checking out a house to buy. After all, you will be with this gym for a period of 6 months to a year or more so best to see if they will cater to all your needs. Check out the exercise floor, the exercise class area, their snack/ juice bar, the sauna, other sports area and most especially, their locker and bath rooms. If their facilities are up to your standards, move on to the next step.

4. Ask for the different deals that you can get from the front office personnel. Ask what are the packages that you can avail and their prices. Choose the one which you think fits your needs best.

5. Ask for the contract and read it carefully before signing. Know the termination clauses, know what will happen if you move to another place or if you get relocated. Know if there is any clause about renewals and breaking of contracts. If you are not in a rush, tell the front office after reading if you can sleep on it before you sign.

These may be a lot to have to consider in joining a gym but remember, one you sign on a gym membership, you are signing on a long term relationship with that establishment. And as with all things in life, you have to make sure that what you are signing up for a great deal, especially this one that will help you in your fat loss goals.
