I have just returned from a weekend in the the beautiful British countryside in the county of Somerset. The countryside in this country is absolutely stunning and even more so when the sunshines. Luckily and surprisingly we managed to pick a weekend with glorious sunshine. And although it was rather cold, the generally mild winter has seen the daffodils raise their heads early and I felt that the spring was not too far away.

The drive to Frome was fairly long. We live in the Ribble valley and due to heavy traffic we were stuck in the Kia Parts car for five hours. Not ideal with a two year old in tow but on arrival at our hotel, we instantly knew it was worth it.

Babington House country hotel is situated in extensive grounds. Ideal for walking and the hotel even provides you with wellington boots should you have left yours behind. The hotel was ideal and perfect for families. And although this might be a historic building it is not littered with antiques that you children might knock over. Very well thought out and there is even a separate children's dining area which really has a home from home feel about it.

And if you like an active holiday then there could not be a better place. Cycling, running, an gym and best of all two swimming pools. And the pools are so well heated, that it was even possible to swim outside in January. A most unexpected treat.

Of course if you can tear you way away from the hotel and it's fantastic facilities, then you really should explore the surrounding countryside. And the hotel is also within easy reach of the historic city of Bath and it's awe inspiring buildings.

A lovely winter break away.
