There is currently an ongoing debate about the decision to raise the motorway speed limit from 70mph to 80mph. Proposals suggest that the increased speed limit could have a range of benefits including quicker commute times which could assist a struggling economy. Supporters of the increase have said the old speed limit is outdated asKia Parts cars are now much safer than they were when the speed limit was put in place. However there are many people which are opposing the change.

Worries about safety are the first issue which many organizations are raising as the largest issue. Higher casualty rates are obviously one of the main concerns. And there are also concerns that the increase in speed will cause higher emissions, damaging the environment whilst also costing the car owner more in petrol.

One Welsh organization has suggested that the country should opt out of the increase even if the rest of the UK decides to go ahead. Welsh roads have a much better safety record than the rest of the UK but the organization says that it needs to make bold decisions if this is going to be sustained.

The organization recognized that the government was keen to make journey times shorter and understood the economic benefits this could bring. However it suggested that sustainable transport would provide a better solution in terms of the environment and safety.

Last week there was an announcement from the transport secretary that the high speed rail link between Birmingham and London was to go ahead. Again, excellent news for commuters and business owners and possibly the economy. However, this scheme also had some opposing views. Particularly for those people who live n the surrounding areas where the train line will rip through.
