  • Nintendo announced the wii u By:-andrew ford
Nintendo announced the wii u at this year's e3 which wasn't a surprise to many as the wii was getting old and the sales weren't hitting the record numbers they did during the early years of the platform. The thing that surprised many though was the concept of having a screen on the controller so you can simply continue your gaming session without a tv. The concept seems very interesting and is a risk only someone like Nintendo can take as they did with the wii which was destined to flop according to analysts and hardcore gamers, but we all know that it ended up at the top of the pile in terms of sales figure this generation. Nintendo again stressed the fact that they don't believe graphics are everything for a platform as the specs for their console are nothing extraordinary. Very typical of Nintendo if you see their history they've always been a company that prefers games with great aesthetics rather than concentrating on how many pixels they can fit onto the screen. The one big complain that many had of the wii was the lack of third party titles, Nintendo aims to address that issue with the Wii U as it showed plenty of AAA third party titles which will make their way to the platform at launch. Wii U news has been reporting some positive opinions of third party developers about the platform. The analysts have once again written off Nintendo as they did in the previous generation, but it remains to be seen how the platform is received by casual and hardcore gamers. The 3DS has fallen short of the sales expectations nintendo had for the handheld, but the recent price drop might lift sales for the holiday season in a recovering economy. It would be interesting to see whether the Wii U will have a similar impact to what the Wii had in the first few years. You can stay up-to-date on all the latest news regarding the console on Wii U News.
